Earlier this week, Villiger announced its 1888 Gran Reserva cigar coming to PCA 2025 but told us there was a second release being announced later this week. We now know that release is the revamped La Capitana.
La Capitana translates to female captain in English from Spanish. The bands and the logo still resemble a female sailor piloting an old ship. However, the entire line has been overhauled including the blend. It will now use an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The previous iteration of La Capitana was a Nicaraguan puro that was manufactured in the Dominican Republic. This cigar will be manufactured at Villager de Nicaragua. It will also be available in the following four sizes:
- Lonsdale 6 x 43 – MSRP: $9.50
- Robusto 5 x 50 – MSRP: $10.00
- Toro 6 x 50 – MSRP: $10.50
- Churchill 7 x 50 – MSRP: $11.00

Villiger says that the new La Capitana will be on display at PCA 2025 along with the 1888 Gran Reserva and expects inventory to begin shipping to stores in May.
