Everyone heard the news around the (cigar) world that was the La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull “Golden NFT” and the auctions that followed. This project, spear headed by Antonio Gomez was the perfect way for LFD to remind the world that they are still in the game, and they came to make a statement. Prior to this, LFD had been quietly weathering the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic that affected everyone. They also skipped the tradeshow, didn’t release anything major, and worked on building up their core business.
But in 2022 La Flor Dominicana, the entire Gomez family, Jonathan Carney and their staff returned to Las Vegas, Nevada for PCA 2022. They brought with them not only the new Solis, which was blended by Litto Gomez Jr, but also Tony Gomez’s latest creation that has been in development for a few years – the Golden NFT based on the extremely popular Andalusian Bull.
The Golden NFT is a 6.25 x 42 Lonsdale available only to the six owners of the seven NFTs that were created alongside a numbed Gold Bullion humidor and the actual NFT file itself. These cigars have since been made available to the public by five of the owners, with one being private. The NFTs collectively sold for over $600,000 on the popular NFT auction site UREEQA. Previously, the first cigar NFT was made available by United Cigar with the Atabey Black although that was only for the art file – no cigar. In addition, following the success of the LFD Golden NFT, Abe Dababneh of Smoke Inn and Pete Johnson of Tatuaje announced a similar NFT project based on the Tatuaje Anarchy micro-blend for Smoke Inn that will debut in 2023.
This was a game changer that not everyone was sold on or even fully understood but it changed the game nevertheless. It spawned inspiration for more of its kind and has become a moneymaker for La Flor. This award is given out not to just the company who puts out a new cigar. If fact, it doesn’t even have to be a cigar at all. It is given to the company who puts any product out that was very unique and could influence others to follow their lead by creating something similar. LFD should be proud of what they accomplished with this product and others should take notice.
