Among the list of exhibitors who are making their return to the 2022 PCA Trade Show is United Cigars and the Ultra-Premium brand they distribute, Selected Tobacco by Nelson Alfonso. Both brands haven’t exhibited since 2019 at the IPCPR trade show. We already discussed how Nelson Alfonso spent his time during the last three years (hint: it was crafting in his workshop). We are happy to say Oliver Nivaud and company did the same with their time away over at United.
Rolled at the Tabacalera Magia factory in Santiago, the YAYA line will be released in three vitolas with a PCA Exclusive fourth vitola, the Short Robusto (4 x 54). Packaged in beautifully lacquered boxes of 15 cigars, the YAYA Robusto (5 x 52), Toro (6 x 54) and Gordo (6 x 60) will be shipping to retailers in July. Using three unique Dominican tobaccos as the filler, and a Dominican Cubano binder, the YAYA completes its line with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper to round out the experience.
United Cigars has started taking orders for YAYA but the YAYA PCA Exclusive Short Robusto will only be available to their retail partners that attended the show. YAYA will have a retail price between $8.99 and $9.99 for single or $134.99 to $149.99 per box.
Next up from United is the Red Anchor- a brand that’s actually 250 years old and has just been revived by United Cigars and the Kelner Family. The Kelner family has not only had a wonderful and impressive history of cigar making in the Dominican Republic, but their roots are from Holland where Red Anchor began. They will give Red Anchor the attention and respect it deserves, making them the perfect partner in this project.
“Four years have passed since the start of this project. Every aspect of Red Anchor has been carefully crafted to properly encapsulate the 250-year history,” said Oliver Nivaud of United Cigars. “Working closely with Hendrik Kelner and the KBF team has been very smooth, this is a perfect marriage.”
The initial launch will be limited to 250 boxes of 25 cigars. The 2022 production will come in one vitola, a 6 x 54 called the Admiral with a suggested retail price of $25.00 per cigar or $625 per box. Red Anchor is medium plus in body and medium in strength, with the blend being announced at the PCA Trade Show.
Another release we saw at the United booth was the return of their annual Fall release; the Cigar Bar. Last year they partnered with JRE to create the box pressed Aladino cigar bar, but this year they have partnered with Rocky Patel. The bar is a pack of three box pressed 6 x 52 cigars wrapped in silver foil and paper; the idea is to mimic a silver bar. These will ship late September.
The cigars themselves are one of each of the following:
-
Rocky Patel Edge Corojo featuring Corojo Wrapper, Nicaraguan Binder and Fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras.
-
Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 featuring Cameroon Wrapper, Nicaraguan Binder, and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers
-
Rocky Patel Sungrown featuring Ecuadorian Sumatra Wrapper, Nicaraguan Binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican Fillers.
