German Engineered Cigars Introduces AKUT, the First Premium Cigar in Pharmaceutical Blister Packaging.

April 2, 2026 By Matthew Tabacco

German Engineered Cigars just announced AKUT – the cigar industry’s first pharmaceutical-style blister packaging for premium long filler cigars. The format launches with two blends: RVGN Extrem AKUT and Kraftwerk AKUT.

The entire packaging follows pharmaceutical standards, produced by specialized suppliers in Germany, engineered with the same precision we apply to our cigars. We had as much fun creating it as we hope you will have opening it. The box, the blisters, the aluminum cavities, the package insert listing possible side effects. Every detail is designed to make you smile before you even light the cigar. Among the listed side effects: “Unexpected emotional alignment. Moments of unplanned calm or creative thought. The need to explain to others that no, you are not in a hurry.”

“We look at other industries for optimal solutions and learn from them,” said Oliver Nickels, Co-Founder and Chief Cigar Engineer. “A pharmaceutical blister is the optimal packaging for protecting an individual cigar: sealed, portable, no humidor required. The package insert is the most effective format for delivering product information. As German Engineered Cigars, we recognize what works well and transfer it to the cigar industry to create a new, exciting experience.”

Do I feel this packaging is interesting – yes of course, it is different and peculiar. However, I do feel this is another example of gimmicky packaging which is something this industry has seen plenty of over the last few years.

AKUT will be available for RVGN Extrem and Kraftwerk at PCA 2026 in New Orleans, LA, April 17–20, at our booth 2646, and through U.S. and global distribution shortly after.
