German Engineered Cigars Announces Weltschmerz and the Lineup Results

October 3, 2022 By Matthew Tabacco

Following RVGN Rauchvergnügen and Raumzeit, German Engineered Cigars announces Weltschmerz – the third regular blend in their portfolio. Weltschmerz is the second blend engineered within their partnership with Claudio Sgroi.

Weltschmerz is German for “a feeling of melancholy and world-weariness “. It’s a cigar for the darker moments of life. The cigar is dark, the aromas complex, the feeling soothing. GEC describes the aromatic experience of Weltschmerz as: “Back in the rolling hills of home. The oven still warm, childhood memories in the air. All is well.”

Weltschmerz is a long-filler cigar, hand-rolled at Tabacalera Tambor in Nicaragua:
     Wrapper: Ecuador – Habano Oscuro
     Binder: Nicaragua – Jalapa
Filler: Nicaragua – Esteli & Jalapa

The first impression of Weltschmerz is characterized by mahogany wood, a whiff of stable, and a little lavender. The cold draw reveals chocolate, raisins, candied orange, a stable on a green meadow and some mint. Its smoke combines aromas of green grass, sandy soil, hazelnuts, warm hugs, toast, minerals, and raw oak with notes of vanilla, blueberries, understanding, the husk of a cracked coconut, toasted walnuts, and darkness.
German Engineered Cigars also announced the result of the Lineup voting. In this six-week voting, consumers voted for the second format of the new Weltschmerz blend, out of the formats Corona Grande 6″x 42, Churchill 7″x 47, and Perfecto 5.5″x 54. Votes came in from the U.S., Germany, Italy, the U.K., Sweden, and many other countries.

The final result:

  • 21.0% Corona Grande

  • 26.1% Churchill

  • 52.9% Perfecto

GEC has said they will recognize this result and deliver the Perfecto as second format of Weltschmerz.

Weltschmerz will therefore be available as:

  • Robusto 5″x 50 – MSRP $12

  • Perfecto 5.5″x 54 – MSRP $14

Market introduction of the Robusto is planned for November 2022 in the U.S. Production of the Perfecto will begin immediately. In March 2023, both formats will be available internationally.

In the U.S., GEC will continue offering the formats of the Lineup package as 10-count bundles under their brand AUTONOM as long as supply lasts:

  • Corona Grande – 6″ x 42 – MSRP US$10

  • Churchill 7″ x 47 – MSRP US$13

  • Perfecto 5.5″ x 54 – MSRP US$14
