Davidoff Announces Special Gran Toro Limited-Edition & Cutter for Nicaragua Line’s 10th Anniversary

June 7, 2023 By Matthew Tabacco

In 2013, Davidoff Cigars encouraged aficionados to explore the wider world of tastes with the then newly launched Nicaragua line. It was the first Davidoff cigar to carry a black band and was thus a novelty for the brand.

“Coming from sophisticated and milder Dominican blends with our White Band Collection, we wanted to please those looking for a more intense palate stimulation. We thus ventured out into the world to diversify our portfolio with tobaccos which grew under different circumstances. We found what we were looking for in Nicaragua’s volcanic soil – a fiery intensity which our Master Blenders tamed and blended to Davidoff sophistication with an exciting bittersweet taste profile. Thus, Davidoff Nicaragua was born”, explains Edward Simon, CMO at Oettinger Davidoff.

“For our Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited Edition, our experts took on a new challenge to create yet more depth for our loyal aficionados. Our labour-intensive cask fermentation and the remarkable age of the tobaccos have led to a full-bodied and refined cigar experience second to none.”

The limited-edition gran toro cigar, while reminiscent of the existing Nicaragua blend, climbs to new heights of taste and creates an intense experience of another level. Davidoff’s Master Blenders pursued new avenues to achieve unprecedented tastes. To honour the anniversary, they put a special emphasis on the ageing of the tobaccos for this cigar: The wrapper, binder and filler tobaccos combined have an age of 45 years. Another special feature of the gran toro is the Estelí seco filler tobacco, which was aged in rum casks for a full 6 months – a first for Davidoff. This creates a very noticeable depth and complexity.

The gran toro initially delights with complex flavours of nuts. Its Nicaraguan filler tobaccos add notes of fresh spice and leather. Due to the tobaccos’ remarkable age, a noticeable balance characterises the whole experience. In the second third, the spicier stimulation slowly fades as the cigar evolves towards more intense notes of oak wood, milk coffee and an intriguing eucalyptus taste. During this development, the gran toro maintains its full body beautifully. As the cigar comes to its close, its intensity increases once again, and the previous milk coffee notes evolve into those of black coffee. Aromas of fresh herbs join the ever-present toasting flavours of this masterpiece, which treats aficionados to 60 to 70 minutes of time beautifully filled.

The 12 gran toro cigars come in a wooden box which displays the carefully varnished Nicaragua pattern. The frame reflects the striking colour of the Nicaragua line around the box, and a 10th anniversary sticker on the lid highlights the special occasion.

In addition, a matching double blade cutter will be made available. The high-quality double blade cutter is the ideal complement to the gran toro cigar. It is made in Germany of brushed stainless steel in matt black with silver blades and displays the typical Davidoff Nicaragua pattern. Elegant engravings such as the Davidoff logo on the blades and the serial number make every cutter a statement piece and collector’s item.

From 6 July 2023, the Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited
Edition and the Double Blade Cutter Limited Edition will be available at select Davidoff Appointed Merchants, premium cigar retailers and in Davidoff flagship stores.
