Crowned Heads has finally announced its eleventh installment to the highly sought-after Las Calaveras series, Las Calaveras EL 2025. For the first time in seven years, and only the second time in the history of the brand, the 2025 Las Calaveras will feature a San Andres (Mexico) wrapper.
“What’s unique about this year’s Las Calaveras release,” commented Crowned Heads President, Jon Huber, “is that not only are we utilizing a San Andres cover leaf, but it’s a color grade that most people would not immediately associate with San Andres (Mexico) wrapper. We selected a mid-priming wrapper, which resulted in a lighter Colorado color to the cigar as opposed to the more commonly seen darker maduro shades of Mexican San Andres wrappers used. This particular wrapper really compliments the blend and allows for the coffee, espresso, and toffee notes to come to the surface that can typically get lost under the pepper and earth profile that the darker, higher priming wrappers yield.”
Introduced in 2014, Las Calaveras began as a tribute to those who have passed on in the previous year, and is intended to be a celebration of life and remembrance, as opposed to a mournful symbol of death or loss. Each year, the Las Calaveras band is adorned with the initials of four individuals who’ve passed the prior year, one set of initials embossed upon each of the four coins on the sides of each band. Cigars are presented in twenty-four-count boxes, three rows of eight cigars each, as the number ‘8’ is a symbol of infinity as in everlasting life, while the three rows represent the beginning, middle, and end of the cycle of life.
A total of 1,500 boxes of each of the three vitolas (108,000 cigars) was produced with an additional 3,000 four-cigar samplers featuring one of each vitola along with a sampler exclusive Petite Lancero (6 1/2 x40). Las Calaveras EL 2025 will have a suggested retail price range of $14.25 to $16.25 per cigar, including LC52 (5 x 52), LC54 (6 x 54), and LC56 (5 x 56). The Las Calaveras EL2025 Sampler will have a suggested retail price of $57.95. Las Calaveras EL 2025 is manufactured at My Father Cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua, and will begin shipping in July.
