It’s that magical time of the year folks, the Holidays! Many will be taking to the web in search for gifts for their loved ones, especially those who smoke cigars. Whether you’re interest in cigars, cutters, lighters or something else, we felt the cigar itself is the most important! Between end of year releases and coveted classics, we thought it would be appropriate to list the top five cigars we anticipate will be the hottest buys this coming holiday shopping season. If you haven’t purchased any cigars as gifts yet and are wondering where to start, look no further than right here!
5. Davidoff Year of the Ox
Several cigar manufacturers release new, special edition boxes of cigars for the holiday season each year that commemorate the Chinese zodiac. Last years “Year of the Rat’ was amazing and this year’s “Year of the Ox’ is no different! Davidoff’s new, limited edition 6 x 60 Dominican Gordo, has just arrived in stores and online retailers. It can be a little tricky to find, but will be a MAJOR gift win if you do. For those of you who don’t know, Davidoff is one of the higher end luxury brand names in the industry. MSRP on this special edition release is $399.
4. HVC Black Friday
We first discovered these cigars last year, when they came in boxes of 50 4 1/2 x 52 short robustos. This year they are back again- but in a 5 5/8 x 46 Corona. They taste even better than last year! These limited run cigars are also available in a smaller size through United Cigar as their special 3 1/2 x 50 “Firecracker” vitola, while supplies last. If your cigar smoker prefers a quicker smoke, try the Firecracker. This is a great bang for you buck in terms of quality and quantity and a solid buy. MSRP on these is $375 per box of 50 for the standard release and $150 per box of 20 for the Firecrackers.
3. Micallef Herencia Habano Toro
Micallef Cigars, a newer brand that is growing rapidly by the minute, released their Herencia Habano this year and it quickly became a favorite here at the Smokin Tabacco office. These 6 x 52 toros are truly flavorful, well balanced and are rolled exceptionally well. A box of 20 at MSRP will run you $240, and will be greatly appreciated by any cigar smoker who receives these from you this year. Make sure if you buy these for someone, then join the free Micallef Ambassador program if they haven’t already!
2. Perdomo 10th Anniversary Maduro
This cigar dropped towards the end of the 2020 summer and was an instant hit! It replaced the Perdomo Champagne Noir line, and in my opinion, is much better in terms of flavor. Perdomo never disappoints, as they are a very reliable brand in terms of quality and consistency. It is an
excellent, price friendly and easy gift to obtain for a cigar smoker. I would be shocked if this isn’t a top Holiday pick in local brick and mortar cigar retailers. We recommend the Epicure 6 x 54 which comes in a box of 25 for a very reasonable $185.99 at MSRP.
1. Fuente Fuente Opus X
When considering our number one gift, we had to consider several factors. There are a lot of great cigars on the market right now… but ultimately, I went with FFOX because at the end of the day, everyone wants it, but it is over an everyday price point and sometimes difficult to obtain- this absolutely comes in as the number one luxury cigar gift. If price is not a factor, and you want to get something extra special- we recommend any cigar from Arturo Fuente’s ultra-premium line. Whether you can get your hands on a whole box or couple of singles, they make for one hell of a surprise on Christmas morning and are sure to be the winner of best gift in any cigar smoking household. Prices vary, but always check out your local brick and mortar. Many who do carry this might not have boxes available, but might have Holiday Sampler packs that have one or two of these elusive cigars included.
