Tomorrow June 30th, Carlito Fuente will be in Nicaragua for the official ground breaking ceremony on the new Nicaraguan Arturo Fuente Factory. Our sources say that the factory is expected to take approximately one and a half years to complete, so we should expect to see it by 2024. Construction was supposed to start much sooner but due to political unrest in Nicaragua and the Covid-19 pandemic things were delayed. Now that things have settled down, Carlito is ready to move forward.
A few years back during the Puro Sabor festival in 2018, Carlito announced Arturo Fuente was ready to go back to their Nicaraguan days before the Nicaraguan revolution. Carlito has been tight lipped on what exactly will be produced there but it sounds as if it could be existing lines as well as new ones.
The factory is to be called Gran Fabrica de Tabacos La Bella y La Bestia – which translates to Beauty and the Beast. It is also important to note, Carlito has already been growing in Nicaragua and is on his approximately seventh crop. Those farms are already in place so the factory will bring it all together.
As I mentioned before, the Fuente family previously operated and made their cigars in Nicaragua prior to the Nicaraguan Revolution. However when their factory was destroyed as a result in 1979, they decided to start over in the Dominican Republic. Now all these years later, they will return to the Nicaragua and continue to grow what has already become one of the powerhouse brands in the industry with lines such as Hemingway, Don Carlos, Casa Cuba, and of course OpusX.
