H. Upmann 1844 Special Edition Barbier to Debut at TPE 2023

February 21, 2023 By Matthew Tabacco

One hundred and eighty years after the establishment of one of the oldest cigar brands in the world, H. Upmann is bringing to life the H. Upmann 1844 Special Edition Barbier, a premium cigar that pays homage to the innovative craftsmanship and a favorite pastime of the brand’s founding brothers.

The 1844 Special Edition Barbier (German for “Barber”) uses a unique combination of two Ecuadorian wrappers – Connecticut and Sumatra – with a Java binder and a blend of Nicaraguan, Dominican and Broadleaf fillers.

“The use of these contrasting shades of wrappers makes for an eye-catching, barber-pole-like presentation,” says Pedro Ventura, Hand Made Operation and Product Development Manager of Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana, Dominican Republic where the cigar is being produced.

“The wrappers work together to add an entirely new flavor profile to the cigar, making one’s smoking session a lot more interesting as well,” he says.

The cigar industry will get its first look at the H. Upmann 1844 Special Edition Barbier, along with a showcase of other releases from Altadis U.S.A., at the 2023 Total Product Expo in Las Vegas, February 22 – 24. The H. Upmann 1844 Special Edition Barbier comes in five sizes.

  • Toro                         54 x 6             $9.62

  • Robusto                   50 x 5             $8.47
