At this year’s InterTabac in Dortmund, German Engineered Cigars unveiled the first prototypes of its new RFID-enabled cigar rings to selected visitors at its booth. The reactions from the trade were overwhelmingly positive, confirming the company’s vision to expand the cigar experience with technology and transparency.
German Engineered Cigars will be the first cigar brand to equip its entire portfolio with RFID-enabled rings. With a simple tap of a smartphone, every cigar can be clearly identified. In the initial rollout, aficionados will see a direct link to the blend’s website for further details, together with the cigar’s identity and production date.
Building on this foundation, the company will expand the RFID services in 2026 and beyond to include authentication features, production transparency, loyalty opportunities, and new ways to connect directly with the brand. This roadmap underscores the company’s commitment to pairing German precision and ingenuity with innovative customer engagement.
The first cigars to ship with the new RFID-enabled ring will be the Kraftwerk and Weltschmerz 5.25″ x 50 Robustos, both planned for December 2025, with all other lines to follow shortly thereafter.
“Our vision has always been to engineer cigars not only as products but as experiences,” says Oliver Nickels, Co-Founder of German Engineered Cigars. “The enthusiastic feedback at InterTabac confirmed that RFID is the right path forward to make every cigar a bridge to information, culture, and direct dialogue with our clients.”
