PCA 2025: Micallef Cigars

April 18, 2025 By Matthew Tabacco

Another year, another trip the Micallef Cigars booth. Since I have been coming to the PCA show, the Micallef booth has always just kind of felt unfinished. It always seems very open and “open bordered” if you will. Most booths, even when the design aspect is minimal, have some kind of display or wall or other element that closes the booth in.

While my colleague didn’t get a photo of the entire booth, there wasn’t much to photograph anyway other than the vinyl back drop that you see above. It was very open concept with some tables and chairs and then some small very simple and casual displays with the brand’s boxes on top. I think some more effort to booth design in the future would do much more for them. There did not seem like enough that represented the brand in an endless sea of booths that start to blend together.

The good thing is they know how to color code as many of the staff seemed to have had on purple and the backdrop in the back of the booth was purple. This is a nod to their latest release, Micallef Purple.

  • Wrapper: San Andrés Sumatra
  • Binder: Broadleaf
  • Filler: Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Mexico
  • Sizes: Robusto (5 x 52) and Toro (6 x 52)
  • MSRP: $7.00/cigar – $8.00/cigar
  • Production: Regular Production
  • Release: April 24, 2025

“Micallef Purple, continues our mission of making premium cigars accessible without compromise.” said Dan Thompson, President of Micallef Cigars. “Like the rest of the Color Series, it proves that premium quality and affordability can go hand in hand.”

Al Micallef, Founder of Micallef Cigars, added: “We continue to invest in the best tobaccos, the best people, and the best processes to bring extraordinary cigars to the market. Micallef Purple is another proud addition to our Color Series, and I can’t wait for our Ambassadors and retail partners to enjoy it.”

There was also a green box out on simply that was nailed shut. Although it was just for display to tease their next release as the box felt empty when I picked it up. No information was shared about it. In addition, Micallef has collaborated on the next firecracker cigar with the Micallef Black Firecracker that will be available sometime in June/July.

To be honest, most of their recent releases are the best thing they have ever done. Black, Blue, Red and now Purple (although I have yet to smoke this one) are the best cigars in the portfolio. I feel it would be best for a small brand like Micallef to scrap their existing lines and stick to the color series. I think that they would grow much better and do better things with that kind of portfolio. This is feedback I hear from shops and consumers who I speak to when I ask about how the brand is doing.
